About Me

Hi there! My name is Emily Friend. As part of a first year seminar course here at Wake Forest University, my fellow students and I are putting together our own blog spaces. Filling these pages are drafted and inspired work that will eventually represent our finalized electronic portfolio. Pretty neat, right?

We’ve been asked to tell a little about ourselves in this wonderful space of openness and creativity, so let’s get down to it, shall we? This is my first year at Wake Forest, and I am elated, terrified, but mostly thrilled to be a part of the community.

Sadly, I have left behind my beloved black lab, Dellie:

I miss waking up to this face every day.

This face is irresistible! How can one not smile?

And my mom, who feels more and more like my best friend each day:

Nothing like mother-daughter bonding to warm the heart. And coffee. Lots of coffee.

Practicing yoga with 5,000 other people after finishing a half marathon this summer in Vancouver, BC. The energy flowing within the space was overwhelmingly beautiful.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees have stolen my heart in the sports division of my life; I grew up with a brother seven years my senior, and a morning without ESPN, was not a morning at all. I practice yoga and have run a half marathon as a testament to myself that I can be happy, healthy, and healing. A few other little facts: I meditated prior to the start of this class; the weekend is not a weekend unless one night is spent watching copious amounts of TV or reading books and comics; honesty truly is the best policy; and anything troublesome can be cured with a gigantic, enormous bowl of ice cream.

I am a vegan and allergic to gluten, which eliminates most food choices on campus, but makes my love of 5 ingredient dorm meals grow with each passing day.  My dietary liberation (I don’t believe in the word restriction) is a great topic that spurs others’ interest and makes for unique and fascinating conversations on values, theories, and personal reflection.

Not only am I excited about the purpose of this blog, but this is my first connection into the blogosphere, a location I have always wanted to explore but lacked both courage and conviction to join. Who knew that a journey through creativity and finding my inner self would be the stepping stones leading to this grand location?
